femslashuary numbers are meaningless, ann/elizabeth

Welllll, I don't really know. This story is part of a much longer and collaborative-with-[personal profile] tropiavera 'verse, I think, but I'm not sure how to go about making such a thing. For now I'm just gonna settle on doing it piecemeal WIP-style, and nothing counts for real until I put it on AO3. Yes?

Parks and Recreation, Ann/Elizabeth (Leslie's ex campaign manager)
continued from this, at the request of [personal profile] aphrodite_mine

“You sure about this?”

Ann’s eyes grow wide. “Of course I am,” she squeaks, “why?”

“Oh, I don’t know,” Donna says, picking lint off Ann’s cardigan, “just that you seem almost as freaked out as Leslie is.”

Ann exhales messily, catching her drooping head in her hands for a second before shooting back up, a manic gleam in her eyes. “Leslie is the problem, Donna! She’s being so weird about this that I feel nervous for her! And it’s my date! And you all asking me over and over if I’m suuuure isn’t helping anything.” She waves her arms out like a miffed octopus. “It’s just a date, you guys, god.”

Donna retreats, hands up in defense. “Okay, okay. Just sensin’ a little tension around here. I think it’s great. Trying new things. You have fun.”

“Yeah,” April adds, “you’ll make a great lesbian, Ann.”

“Um?” Ann squints at her.

“You know, because you have the world’s most boring and terrible taste in men.”

“You married my ex.”

April smiles broadly. “Such a good lesbian! Have fun Ann bye!!!” Ann takes the cue, eager above all to leave before Leslie can come back and make up an emergency to keep her from going.

“Well, I’d hit it,” Donna reflects, and at her desk, April silently nods.

Ann and Elizabeth meet at a coffee shop in Eagleton. “Sorry about changing locations on you,” Ann opens when they spot each other, “it’s just, I don’t think Leslie is really okay with me seeing someone from her old campaign, so I thought it might be better to be a little off the beaten path.”

“No problem!” Elizabeth takes the moment to give her an awkward hug, in commencement of their date. “You’re all right with the campaign issue, though? You seem like a very loyal friend.”

“Oh, well, thank you, I guess. It’s not my campaign and I don’t think I should get involved with taking sides,” Ann explains as they walk in and she hangs her purse on the back of a chair.

“But switching teams doesn’t bother you at all?” Elizabeth raises an eyebrow.

“Wow, that was blunt.” Ann smiles blankly, and blinks.

“Occupational hazard,” Elizabeth shrugs. “I like to know what I’m getting into.”

“Fair enough.” Ann drums on the formica table, a little uncertain. “Well, I don’t. Know what I’m getting into right now, I mean. I just know what I’m getting out from. That’s why I said yes. Is that okay?”

“…Yeah,” says Elizabeth, “Fair enough. I think yes is a good start.”

Ann flashes her a timid smile. “Wanna get some drinks?”

I totally missed the original tumblr post so I'm super glad you've written more because looking back, (to three minutes ago) my life was a landscape of grey without Ann/Elizabeth. HOW DID I LIVE WITHOUT THEM?

Whatever, the case is that I will never have to know because you are going to keep writing them, right? RIGHT?

Oops, probably not the best way to compliment someone on their writing. I LURVED THIS!

hahahaha PERFECT LINE. I love the awkward hug at the beginning of the date (so familiar) and Elizabeth's bluntness.
