The Holocaust bandom fic is back up in public, with our original comments deleted (but we've got proof) and, and it's all I can do to comment to her AGAIN, and I can't speak rationally for more than a couple paragraphs about it, so if you have any hue and cry left -- raise it up. And if you've hit the wall, which I certainly have, by fucking god, I hope the whole house comes down with it.

Fucking hell, she didn't even take down the "ARBEIT MACHT FREI" picture at the beginning? I mean, in one part of my brain I know that this is part of the process, that getting defensive and then defiant is what happens when people face their privilege; and that fandom in particular is a space where people want to be able to do whatever they want, whenever they want, however they want, and woe be the person who gets in their way; and that it's even more challenging for people to be understanding when it comes to their kinks, sexual or not.

But in the other part of my brain I'm like FUCK YOU FUCK YOU FUCK YOU FUCK YOU, and also I think that even having "experimented on by mad scientists" is a fucked-up prompt, and there's already been a certain amount of discussion surrounding the h/c bingo, mostly about its attitude toward disabilities. There's been some problems with various prompts on the other bingos as well, though with schmoop it was dealt with pretty quickly, and the h/c people did link to the conversations about the prompts.

Still, looking at all that the kink bingo mods do to keep things from being gross on either end, and provide piles of information about each kink with their wiki, and the care they took with the prompts, it's like people took the form but not the substance of these bingos. And that's unfortunate.

I am really saddened by how H/C bingo has shaken out. I signed up for it looking at the sci-fi-ish prompts in a very nostalgic X-Files-y mood, and avoided most of the disability prompts, but I was very aware of the completely reasonable objections to it. And now this, which just needs to be disavowed up and down the internet, and really hasn't been; not enough. I'm not sure if I can even stand to try to fill out my own card anymore.

I think you should. I think you should because the fact that the h/c people did post the ableism debate on the comm is hopeful. I think you should because it's better to show people how it can be done. I mean, I have in my gdocs a fic to beta that's about Jim Kirk's OCD and Bones helping him cope when it flares up as a fill for insanity (always there) and the author is trying hard to make it not fail-y. So I think do it, and then the good stories will maybe outnumber the shitty ones and people will see that it isn't h/c, but people being lazy pricks.
